Award winning developers Wates come home to a SEGRO site

It’s quite a compliment that a company that has won national awards for its architecture should make its regional headquarters here at IQ Cambridge, a landmark development in its own right.

Clearly, Wates Construction , which has just taken a 2,500 sq ft unit at Building 7200, felt that our facilities and grounds were up to their own very high standards, and we’re pleased to return the compliment by welcoming a firm of their calibre onto the park.

“The quality of the architecture and surrounding parkland make IQ Cambridge an ideal showcase for our company” says Gary Hall, Operations Director for Wates, “and an impressive venue in which to entertain clients”.

When you look at the quality of Wates’ own projects, that is praise indeed.  UK-wide contractors with a £1 billion turnover, Wates have a proven track record in both public and private sector construction works including education, prisons, local authority frameworks, heritage, commercial and mixed use developments.

The firm’s reputation for innovation is based on its schemes for clients in these sectors, for which it has won the title of ‘Major Contractor of the Year’ for the last two years in the Building Magazine Awards.

Of course, for a national operation like Wates, strategic location and communications are also a key consideration.  “IQ Cambridge offered us the benefits of a Cambridge base without the town centre congestion” says Gary Hall, “it’s highly accessible to both our staff and clients, and a strategic centre for our operations in East Anglia, which currently comprise 12 live sites from Grantham in the north to Ware in the south”.
